The successful applicant should be aware of key issues in speech recognition, phonetics and statistics, but their main area of expertise will be in C or C++ programming. Organisational skills are also required, as the post will include the specification and procurement of speech databases to fill the needs of a number of concurrent projects. LINGUISTICS POSITION The Department of Linguistics at the University of Southern California invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship to begin Fall 2000. We are looking for a linguist who engages in computational or mathematical modeling of linguistic phenomena. Particular research areas of interest to the Department include, but are not limited to: acquisition/processing; language change/typology/variation; neurolinguistics; speech production/perception; and phonology/syntax/semantics.
