PhD., doctorate or equivalent degree (cf. Art. 83, decree of 12/6/1991 on the universities of the Flemish Community); 2. Proof of scientific research on languages and literatures from subsaharan Africa, other than Afrikaans; 3. Demonstrable profound knowledge of at least one subsharan-African language, and a basic knowledge of at least one other subsaharan-African language, other than Afrikaans. Modalities -Selection will normally result in tenured appointment, with a possibility of a three-year temporary appointment followed by tenure after a positive evaluation of the appointee=92s performance. -Applications (two copies) have to be sent by registered mail to the Rector, University of Gent, Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat 25, B-9000 Gent (Belgium) by March 4, 1999. Announcing two positions for Academic Year 1999-2000 Department of Linguistics University of Wisconsin - Madison The Dept. of Linguistics at the University of Wisconsin - Madison anticipates openings for two full-time Visiting Assistant Professors, one with a specialty in SYNTAX, and the other with a specialization (or combination of specializations) in PHONOLOGY, ARTICULATORY PHONETICS, INSTRUMENTAL PHONETICS, or HISTORICAL LINGUISTICS.
