University or Organization: University of Texas at San Antonio Department: Division of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies Rank of Job: Assistant/Associate Professor Specialty Areas: Applied Linguistics, Assessment, bilingualism, literacy, SLA Description: The Division of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies, University of Texas at San Antonio seeks a scholar with expertise in quantitative methods for the study of the assessment of language minority students, bilingualism, language and literacy development, and/or second language acquisition. Level of appointment, to begin in Fall 2003 pending budgetary approval, will depend on qualifications and experience. The Division offers a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mexican American Studies, a Master of Arts Degree in Bicultural-Bilingual Studies with concentrations in Bicultural Studies, Bilingual Education, and English as a Second Language, and a Ph.D. in Culture, Literacy, and Language. It also provides undergraduate and graduate programs for teacher certification as well as support courses for other programs in the University. Responsibilities include: Teach graduate and undergraduate courses, including courses in quantitative research methods, offered either at the UTSA Downtown campus or the Main campus and occasionally at night, advise master's and doctoral degree students, pursue an active research agenda, and contribute to the university and community through service activities. For Appointment as Assistant Professor (tenure track): Required Qualifications: Doctorate with specialization in applied linguistics, bilingual education, educational linguistics, psychology, or a closely related area. Potential for research and publication in one or more of the following areas: assessment of language minority students; bilingualism; language and literacy development; second language acquisition. Proficiency in a language other than English. Preferred Qualifications: University teaching experience. Record of securing research or fellowship support. Publication record in area of specialization. For Appointment as Associate Professor (with tenure): Required Qualifications: Doctorate with specialization in applied linguistics, bilingual education, educational linguistics, psychology, or a closely related area. Nationally recognized record of research and publication in one or more of the following areas: assessment of language minority students; bilingualism; language and literacy development; second language acquisition. University teaching experience. Proficiency in a language other than English. Preferred Qualifications: Graduate teaching experience. Experience supervising Masters and Doctoral students. Record of securing external research funding.
