The Reading Matrix: An International Online Journal Call for Papers Volume 3, No.1 Deadline March 15, 2003 The Reading Matrix is seeking submissions of previously unpublished manuscripts on any topic related to the teaching and learning of reading, the application of technology to literacy instruction, and issues in second language learning and teaching. - personal characteristics and attitudes of readers - L2 learners' reading processes - readers' responses to texts - assessment/evaluation - reading and computer-assisted instruction - vocabulary acquisition - literacy and technology - L2 pedagogy/research We welcome both practical and research focused articles (including action research). Articles should have a clear focus and be written so that they are accessible to a broad audience of reading and language educators, including those individuals who may not be familiar with the particular subject matter addressed in the article. Manuscripts are being solicited in the following categories: Articles Articles should report on original research or present an original framework that links previous research, educational theory, and teaching practices. Full-length articles should be no more than 6,000 words in length and should include an abstract of no more than 200 words. We encourage articles that take advantage of the electronic format by including hypermedia links to multimedia material both within and outside the article. Submission Guidelines for Articles Please list the names, institutions, e-mail addresses, and if applicable,World Wide Web addresses (URL(s)), of all authors. Also include a brief biographical statement (maximum 50 words, in sentence format) for each author. Commentaries Commentaries usually address issues presented in books or articles in more detail and are reviewed in the same manner as book reviews. They offer an author's perspective and insight on a particular issue, and often include discussions about the classroom experience. Reviews Reviews should offer a brief description and evaluation of professional books, classroom texts, or technological resources (multimedia software, CALL programs, video material, Web sites, etc.). HPSG-2003 10th International Conference on Head-Driven Phrase Structure Grammar East Lansing, Michigan, USA July 18-20, 2003 The 10th International Conference on HPSG will take place on 18-20 July 2003 at Michigan State University, East Lansing (held in conjunction with the 2003 Linguistic Institute). Abstracts are solicited for 30 minute presentations (followed by 10 minutes of discussion) which address linguistic, foundational, or computational issues relating to the framework of Head-Driven Phrase Structure Grammar. SUBMISSION DETAILS We invite E-MAIL submissions of abstracts, to consist of two parts 1) a separate information page in plain text format, containing - author name(s) - affiliation(s) - e-mail and postal address(es) - title of paper 2) An extended abstract with title, not more than 5 (five) pages long, including all figures and references. Abstracts may be either in plain ASCII, PostScript, or PDF format. A successful abstract clearly describes the issues, presents an analysis (if appropriate) and presents evidence for any proposals made, including samples of data.
