The English Department at Youngstown State University (Ohio) is considering applications for a tenure-track position in ESL/TESOL at the Assistant Professor level, beginning Fall 1995. Ph.D. in ESL/TESOL by time of appointment and teaching experience required. The ideal candidate will show commitment to teaching, scholarship, research, and university and community service. Administrative experience and secondary area of specialization in applied linguistics or secondary education preferred. The candidate will be expected to teach courses in ESL, lead the development and reorganization of the ESL program campus-wide at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and supervise adjunct faculty. The University of Southwestern Louisiana (Universite' des Acadiens) has a tenure track position for an assistant/associate professor of French with a specialization in French sociolinguistics. The candidate will be responsible for quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels both in language and linguistics courses. Native or near-native fluency as well as demonstrated excellence in teaching and research are required. The Department of Modern Languages has established the United States' first Ph.D. program in Francophone Studies and preference will be given to candidates with secondary expertise in regional dialects and/or Francophone studies. JOB ANNOUNCEMENT North Carolina State University invites applications for a tenure-track position for a linguist in the English Department. Successful candidates should possess 1) specialized expertise in syntactic theory or phonological theory; 2) demonstrated research interest and scholarly promise in language variation studies; 3) evidence of compatibility with the traditional interests of English studies programs, such as literature, rhetoric, or composition. North Carolina State University presently offers a Master's degree in English with a concentration in linguistics and an undergraduate minor in linguistics. Available facilities include a linguistics lab offering state-of-the-art equipment for research and student involvement. Teaching will include undergraduate and graduate courses in linguistics, as well as Modern English Grammar and the History of English. The position offers exciting research and scholarly opportunity for a high-energy, entry-level candidate. Salary range $30,000 - 35,000. Summer teaching and reserach funding are also regulalry available to supplement salary.
