****************** The Program in Linguistics & Cognitive Science at Dartmouth College announces a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level to be based half-time in linguistics and half-time in a foreign language department, beginning September 1997. We are seeking someone with expertise in theoretical linguistics, preferably with a specialization in phonology. Candidates should be prepared to teach undergraduate-level courses in linguistics and language courses (including introductory-level language) in one of the following languages: French, Hebrew, Arabic, Japanese or Chinese. Native or near-native fluency in one of these languages is required. Ph.D. at the time of appointment required. Interviews will be held at the LSA convention in Chicago, January 2-5, 1997. Department of Linguistics UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT URBANA-CHAMPAIGN ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF LINGUISTICS PHONOLOGY The Department of Linguistics of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor of linguistics, with specialization in phonology. Salary will be in conformity with qualifications. We seek candidates with expertise in theoretical phonology, and favorable consideration will be given to candidates with secondary strength in either experimental phonetics (laboratory phonology) or African linguistics. Responsibilities will include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in linguistics, and advising both undergraduate and graduate students in linguistics. Requirement: A Ph.D. by the start of the appointment (August 21, 1997).
